Cedar Knolls is a section of Hanover Township in Morris County, NJ. The community began in 1913 with a large subdivision along the north side of Ridgedale Avenue - the main road running through Cedar Knolls. Small plots of land were quickly sold off and a community of summer homes and bungalows came to life with vacationers from NYC. Today, Cedar Knolls is a densely populated suburban community. Most of the small bungalow homes have been expanded, winterized, or knocked-down and replaced with new construction. Cedar Knolls (07927) has its own post office and fire department. However, some residents have a Morris Plains (07950) postal address, which can be confusing. The Trailwood section of Cedar Knolls was built beginning in the 1960s and offers larger colonial homes on more spacious property lots.
